Coffee tables are living room focal points. They have the functional use of providing a place to set a coaster and a cup of coffee, bowls of snacks, and other small essentials. However, they look quite bare if they don’t contain anything else. Here are some accessories that every coffee table should have to look its best:

BOOKS

The “coffee table book” is thus called because it is one that is sized to look great on a coffee table. Typically, it contains plenty of photographs that can be flipped through without much thought. That said, a coffee table book doesn’t have to be so devoid of words. It should, however, be large. A stack of a few of them will serve as a great accent when they’re not being read.

A LAMP

A small lamp, or alternatively, a candle holder with a candle, will provide both light and interest. Choose the lamp if the room needs some fairly powerful illumination. Go for the candle if you want to add atmosphere or bring scent into the room.

SMALL PLANTS OR FLOWERS

Big plants will overwhelm the table, but small shade-loving ones make great accents. If you don’t want to have to worry about keeping a plant alive, try flowers in a vase. Either way, bringing a natural element to the table will perk it up well.

KNICK-KNACKS

It’s important not to go overboard with knick-knacks, but adding a few will liven things up and show off your personality. If you prefer functional accessories, go with coasters. They look great stacked up, and when in use, they keep the table from getting marred with rings from the bottoms of cups. For accessories that don’t need to have a function, try statuettes or figurines. These come in so many forms that they can match any tastes.
