IS YOUR HOME SAFE FOR PETS: HERE’S HOW TO DO SO

APARTMENT LIVING, PETS

One of the benefits of the Taluswood Apartments in Mountlake Terrace, is the ability to enjoy your pets. Many times, pets mean as much to residents as any other member of the family. Yet, there are common, and sometimes very dangerous, situations in any apartment that could put your favorite furry friends at risk.

Take a closer look at how you can take preventative measures to protect your four-legged friends.

#1: CHILDPROOF THE KITCHEN

Even though they may be animals, pets are creative and smart enough to open cabinet doors. To avoid pets getting into the trash can, food or chemicals, place childproofing closures or latches on cabinetry.

#2: LOOK FOR DANGLING WIRES

Cats, for example, are quite interested in anything that hangs or moves. Dangling wires from televisions, electronics or even curtains can become choking hazards. Just as you would for children, remove these or keep them out of the way by taping them on a near by fixture.

#3: KEEP YOUR TRASH COVERED

Keeping your pets out of the trash is very important, but not always easy. You do not want your pet to get into spoiled food. Choose a trash can with a latch lid as a starter. Also, keep trash emptied and out of the apartment as much as possible.

#4: KEEP KID’S TOYS OUT OF THE WAY

Children’s toys are shiny and interesting, but they can also be choking hazards to a gnawing puppy or a playful kitten. Keep anything that is electronic as well, especially smaller items that fit into pet mouths, out of the way.

#5: PLACE GATES ON DOORWAYS TO PREVENT EXITS

Finally, take the time to put up proper baby gates to keep pets out of dangerous areas like the kitchen or bathroom. You can also do this to protect smaller children, like infants, from pets.

When it comes to enjoying your home, you do not want to do it without your favorite pets. At the same time, it is just as important to keep them safe and secure.
