APARTMENT LIVING

It’s that time of year again. Summer vacation is coming to a close. And while fall in Mountlake, Washington has so much fun in store, why not plan at least one more trip of summertime fun, no plane tickets required. Here are a few of our favorite day trips that are an easy car ride from our apartments in Mountlake Terrace.

GREAT VACATION DESTINATIONS DRIVING DISTANCE FROM MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, WASHINGTON

Bainbridge Island: This road trip could be as little as 20 minutes, followed by a 50-minute ferry ride to arrive at your final destination. But if there is anything to rival the wind in your hair on the open road in summer time, it’s a short trip on the seven seas. The island is a perfect mix of an agricultural lifestyle interwoven with a proud presence of both the visual and performing arts. Once there, take a walk, hike or bike ride in Bloedel Reserve or Fort Ward State Park, check out the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, get ice cream at Mora Ice Cream Company or stop for a wine tasting at one of the island’s eight wineries.

The Issaquah Alps: If you were looking to gain more elevation than sea air in your mini-vacation, a trip to the Issaquah Alps is in order. In under and hour and a half you can be at Tiger Mountain State Forest, with a climb that yields some of the finest views of Mount Rainer. The hike has over 2000 feet of elevation, but is known for being accessible to non-mountaineers. Did Tiger Mountain get you thinking of big cats? Well, a visit to Cougar Mountain Zoo or Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park is in order.

Vancouver: If you’re looking to spend a bit longer on the road, and are itching for a trip that’s international, did you know that Vancouver is only a 2-and-a-half-hour drive away? From beautiful beaches to world class restaurants, nightlife, shopping and arts, there’s not much Vancouver doesn’t offer. So get out your passport and hit the road.
