APARTMENT LIVING

Summertime isn’t always about barbecues. It’s also a great time to host an elegant dinner party indoors with some friends and loved ones. Use the following tips to take the stress out of planning and hosting a dinner party.

KEEP THE MENU SIMPLE

You don’t have to fill your dinner menu with complicated dishes that involve several different ingredients or dishes that have to be prepared individually. Instead, consider having simple one-pot dishes for your dinner party, such as a casserole or Crock-Pot entrée. Just make sure you check with your guests ahead of time about any food allergies or sensitivities they have.

CLEAN WHILE YOU COOK

Cleaning up while you’re making dinner cuts down on the amount of time you’ll have to spend doing so afterward. Wipe off the counters, rinse off cooking utensils and wash your pots and pans as soon as you’re done using them. This gives you more time to relax during and after dinner since you won’t have to worry about having a big stack of dishes to do.

SET THE TABLE EARLY

Depending on how much you have to do the day of your party, you might want to set the table the night before. By doing this, you get the task out of the way so you can focus on cooking and doing other duties before the guests arrive. It also means you don’t have to take the time to set the table while juggling food preparation and greeting guests.

GO LIGHT WITH HORS D’OEUVRES

If you plan on offering hors d’oeuvres before dinner, choose something that’s light and simple. Otherwise, your guests will fill up on these and not have much room for dinner. This also saves you some time when it comes to food prep. Consider having cheese and crackers or vegetables and dip.

ACCEPT OFFERS OF HELP

If your guests offer to bring something or help you out with anything, such as cutting up vegetables or cleaning off the table after dinner, take them up on it. This makes your dinner party easier on you.

Our apartments in Mountlake Terrace, Washington have fully equipped kitchens that make it easy to prepare for a dinner party. Contact us for more information about our available floor plans.
